Epic Games Fortnite Engineering Team is looking for a smart, creative UI Programmer Intern to join them for Winter 2020. Our Interns are given challenging projects over the work term, and are provided with a meaningful experience with high expectations for performance. This team is responsible for introducing new ways to play the game through the Fortnite Creative mode. The Creative mode allows users to play the game the way they want to play it, through new maps, devices and game modes. The work needed for Fortnite Creative spans both the player experience (e.g., HUD, inventory, and other in-game management systems) and UI for the tools creators need to build Fortnite Creative experiences.
Work closely with the creative team (user experience designers, artists, producers, and other engineers) to ship UI heavy features.
Build UI systems for multiple platform types (e.g., console, PC, mobile)
Solve user facing problems with high visibility.
Influence the future of how games are made in Fortnite Creative.
Currently pursuing bachelors or masters degree in CS or related fields
Online portfolio showcasing UI, HUD using C++ game or application is a must
Significant programming experience C++ through school work or outside activities
Solid understanding of Data Structures
Building user interfaces for games
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Top candidate will have experience working with Unreal Engine 4
Preference plusses given to UMG, scaleform or similar UI frameworks
This is a paid internship, running Spring / Summer 2020. All candidates must be eligible to work 40 hours per week on site in Cary. Intern recruitment for summer 2020 roles will run through February 2020, or until teams find an ideal match.
