The Communications Intern will learn directly about Commonwealth’s work in key areas of financial security and financial inclusion and support the efforts of Commonwealth’s marketing team to elevate the organization’s mission. The Intern will gain practical experience of being part of a dynamic and collaborative marketing team, building skills in research, writing, social media engagement and reporting. This role is based in Boston, but may initially be remote.
Conduct research on strategic partners and foundations
Write and edit content, including blog posts and Commonwealth publications
Identify and implement strategies for social media engagement and list building
Monitor national and regional news around financial security and wellness
Monitor and suggest ideas to improve Commonwealth’s online presence (Wikipedia, search engine optimization, etc.)
Assist with logistics and coordination for webinars, virtual events, and convenings
Provide general and administrative support on projects and for marketing team members as needed
Participate in marketing and partnership team meetings
Contribute to a positive organizational culture through appetite for learning, eagerness to support colleagues, and engaged participation on team projects and tasks
Other duties as assigned
Passion for the mission of Commonwealth and driving social change through promoting economic prosperity for financially vulnerable consumers
Excellent written communication skills: you craft persuasive and comprehensive communications for different audiences
Strong qualitative research skills
Ability to develop solutions to problems creatively as they arise and the judgment to know when to call on colleagues or a supervisor for help.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and diverse groups of people; client services exposure a plus.
Experience with social media campaigns, Hubspot CRM, visual graphic design, or proofreading/editing a plus
Interest in financial technology solutions and low- and middle-income consumers
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week internship. Due to COVID-19, the position may start off remotely, but candidates need the ability to work from Commonwealth’s Boston office if/when it reopens. The internship’s anticipated duration is 12 weeks: exact dates have flexibility, and are proposed to be May 18- August 7. The hourly rate for this role is $15/hour.
