This Summer experience offers an opportunity for a qualified individual with little or no previous professional work experience to explore and prepare for a career in the field of Technology and Environmental Services within the Water, Sewer, and Streets (WSS) Division. This opportunity will offer in-depth, hands-on learning opportunities in IT areas critical to supporting a local government structure.Over the course of the Summer, the student will work under the supervision of senior staff members to gain valuable on-the-job training and real-world work experience, while participating as an integral part of the WSS Application Support Team. The Application Support Team is responsible for providing support and expertise required to maintain the WSS technology infrastructure, applications, system hardware, all workstation and mobile devices, software and peripheral equipment. The team also performs business analysis, manages system lifecycles, designs and monitors mobile applications, and analyzes work flows and builds custom solutions in order to improve the efficiency of the department's operational objectives.Specific duties include: Providing technical support for desktop and peripheral devices in a Windows/Office environment; Providing mobile device support for IOS devices, including inventorying devices; Using Microsoft Office Suite and other software to document processes; Generating reports from various data sources (SQL, Access, Excel, etc.) Providing assistance with SharePoint content management and creation;The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning new technology and tools and be able to independently research alternate and efficient ways to perform tasks. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential in order to effectively provide user support and technical resolution and guidance. The successful candidate can anticipate a dynamic and challenging environment where they will be challenged to learn and contribute as they work both independently and in a team environment.

The official title of this position is Student Assistant II. This position may be filled at the Student Assistant I or II level based on qualifications. Applicants should not have professional experience related to this internship.Minimum Qualifications: Student Assistant I: Currently enrolled High School student.Student Assistant II: Enrollment in and pursuing a post-High School education program (such as college or university, technical training, apprenticeship program) in an IT related field.Note: May/June, 2020 high school graduates must be enrolled in a post-High School education program in order to be considered for Student Assistant II level.Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following: Completion of courses in Computer Science or related field; Customer service experience; Basic background and/or understanding of Databases and SQL; General idea of software development best practices; Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access or PowerPoint and any Asset Management software.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This position is 40 hours a week, start date negotiable; however, expected to begin by or before the end of May. Normal work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.The salary range at the top of this job announcement encompasses entry level for Student Assistant I to the maximum level for Student Assistant II.The salary range for each level: Student Assistant I: $9.50 - $15.00/hourly Student Assistant II: $11.00 - $18.50/hourlyThis is a temporary Summer position, not eligible for County benefits.Each section of the application must be completed.
