The communications team at the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks a summer intern. Join us and get diverse, hands-on experience in online communications, health communications and social media. The position is offered for credit and a stipend. Competitive applicants will have completed at least two semesters of communications course work. Please supply a letter of interest and resume. The individual in this position will work with different departments at AGA (practice, research, advocacy, membership) to ensure their web pages are updated, review metrics with them to show what works and what can be improved and provide suggestions on how to improve content on a page to increase engagement.
Responsibilities:
At the end of the internship, build a page from scratch using different modules, incorporating Google Tag Manager, and setting up keywords and SEO reports for the page.

Social media responsibilities and expectations
AGA has a vibrant social media presence, recently expanding to Instagram. The individual in this position will have the opportunity to help develop strategies that will engage and grow our audience.

The communications team at the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks a summer intern. Join us and get diverse, hands-on experience in online communications, health communications and social media. The position is offered for credit and a stipend. General communications duties include:
  • Write and distribute content through e-newsletter, email, press releases and social media.
  • Editing and proofreading various communications and marketing pieces as assigned.
  • Tie together AGA communications content and relevant external news for discussion ideas in the AGA Community forum and social media posts.
  • Brainstorm ideas and help promote podcast content.

Responsibilities:
  • Review current online content with staff.
  • Track metrics monthly; work with the communications manager to define trends and possible next steps to increase engagement.
  • Coordinate online updates for different program staff and events.
  • Support behind-the-scenes technical aspects and gain a thorough understanding of how backend content management systems operate.
  • Provide support and additional ideas for organizing, displaying and promoting online content.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor social media accounts.
  • Develop post copy and images for all AGA’s social media channels: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn.
  • On Instagram, work with GI influencers to drum up excitement and followers.
  • Assist in updating current content on AGA’s YouTube channel.
  • Develop social media campaigns around monthly patient topic areas.
  • Track metrics and pull reports monthly to discuss with the communications team.
  • Moderate AGA Community forum discussions and integrate relevant topics with other member communications.
