Responsible for a wide a range of Human Resources activities including employee communications, assisting with staff training, assisting with the administration of employee benefits and workers compensation under close supervision of Human Resources Director, recruitment support functions, data entry and basic analysis, and communicating with employees on a regular basis to keep abreast of concerns. Provides input into department policies and works to ensure that employees are properly trained and on-boarded Job Responsibilities
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
~ Assists with human resources with training, employee relations, and benefits administration
~ Assists with creating the employee newsletter material for the intranet.
~ Assists with recruiting, pre-employment testing, reference checks, drug tests, and criminal background checks
~ Processes and files new hires and terminations
~ Completes new hire orientations and induction process for new hires
~ Assists in maintaining City HRIS databases
~ Performs data entry in preparation for data analysis
~ Conducts employee verifications
~ Prepares new hire packets and employment offer letters
~ Prepares and distributes employee correspondence and materials
~ Assists with all job postings and advertising as assigned
~ Researches information as required by the department
~ Orders and issues supplies
~ Provides administrative support to the department director
~ Creates letters for review
~ Prepares mailings
~ processing incoming calls and messages
~ Performs other related duties as may be assigned or required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAINING: -
This position may require specific training or experience that is relevant to the department assigned and tasks required. Generally the intern must have the ability to perform detailed work with speed and accuracy; the ability to operate Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; the ability to type accurately at a speed of at least 50 words per minute; the ability to interact in a positive manner with the public and co-workers; the ability to prepare records in a systematic, neat, and legible manner; and the ability to maintain confidentiality. EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED: -
1. A High School Degree or GED equivalent.
2. Working towards a Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Psychology or a related field.
3. The internship must be required as a part of the interns degree program.
4. A valid Texas drivers license.
The Human Resources Intern must be able to lift and carry up to 20. The Human Resources Intern is required to stand or sit for extended periods. The Human Resources Intern must use eyes, ears, hands and fingers to perform assigned duties and responsibilities. The job of The Human Resources Intern is performed mainly indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
