Business Internship

Job Description: Gateway Area Development District (ADD) seeks a candidate for the position of Business Support Intern to assist with various general business-related items. The candidate shall be a talented college student, or recent college graduate, who would combine part-time hours at Gateway ADD with their studies and/or other activities. The candidate may complete this internship for academic credit. Gateway ADD is willing to coordinate with the candidate and the post-secondary institution for necessary paperwork and reporting requests. The intern will work an average of 15 – 22.5 hours weekly. The number of hours can be adjusted accordingly to fulfill academic requirements.

The Business Support Intern will assist with communications, marketing, and general business activities. These activities may include but are not limited to the following: performing inventories of physical assets (furniture, equipment, etc.), identifying various types of assets, tagging the asset, entering the asset and descriptive comments into an inventory management software; promoting the organization through the implementation of a variety of digital marketing strategies; writing communication and marketing materials to be used in press releases and on social media platforms; updating the Gateway ADD website; assisting with general office duties such as copying or filing. The intern will perform other duties as assigned, which may include: research, writing, proofreading and editing documents.

The internship position is part-time, unpaid, and temporary (January – May). The position will provide a vast amount of experience to the intern, including how to work in an office setting, work with a team, and how to strengthen skills while building a strong resume. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Candidates must be current students, recent graduates (within one calendar year), and/or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program (within the next year). Most interns are at least seniors at the undergraduate level, though strongly qualified juniors (at the time of application) will be considered. Graduate students are also encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will possess: a strong work ethic; initiative, good attitude, and willingness to learn; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; excellent research, writing, and organizational skills; ability to handle assigned tasks efficiently; proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with web-based technology and web design are a plus. Consequently, a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work with minimum supervision are strong assets.
