Summer College Intern - IT, Computer Science - DoIT Public Safety LPD

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.This internship is with the Public Safety IT Department located at the Lakeland Police Department, 219 North Massachusetts Avenue in Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 20 hours a week. The time period for the internship is Tuesday, May 26th to Friday, July 31st.

Assist with the creation of an IT knowledge management system Assist with evaluating the feasibility of Fire employees using iPads in the field Assist with the deployment of laptops to patrol officers Provide professional support such as tracking and charting citywide performance measures; develop tracking methods and gathering performance data Perform self-reading as assigned, correcting errors as they are found Conduct special studies in conjunction with a project, analyze data and make recommendations based upon studies ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participation in the LEDC Summer Leadership Program is an encouraged opportunity of the internship if the student is interning during the summer Perform related work as required

Enrollment in or recent graduation from a college or university in a major relating to Computer Science or Information TechnologyRequired: Unofficial college transcript must be uploaded with application to confirm applicant's major.

Basic computer hardware knowledge Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites Ability to promptly and effectively complete tasks Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and the general public Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination).
