PolyOne is seeking a future sales representative to participate in a 10-week summer internship that will focus on the Sales Representative role at PolyOne. Our internship program provides an important industry perspective through training and experiences with an overview of our selling curriculum and our business units. Throughout this program, individuals will be given broad exposure to PolyOne, our sales territories and learn our Value Based Selling program. Training will provide development of understanding around polymer and plastic fundamentals, value-creating solutions, services and technologies, account management and prospect research.
During the internship, our interns will establish relationships with peers and leaders, learn business and sales fundamentals and receive feedback from their manager. Ownership of a high impact project will be assigned in week one of training with resources provided throughout the program.

Upon completion of the internship program, our interns will gain meaningful, real-world experiences in key areas that our sales representatives demonstrate competencies in such as: relationship building, negotiation skills, research, planning and account management. There will be many opportunities to use presentation skills with peers and business leaders, gain hands-on experience in each stage of our value-based selling model, and have real work life experiences to network, enhance industry related and soft skills, and explore career niches. Participants may have the opportunity to join PolyOne after graduation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Shadow experienced account managers.
  • Attend customer meetings to learn the importance of building relationships with existing customers and prospecting new customers.
  • Identify, research and track sales leads.
  • Develop pre-call planning and summary of understandings for account managers.
  • Learn and demonstrate an understanding of value-based selling.
  • Research, analyze and present findings from high-impact project to business leaders.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and relevant account information in CRM system.
  • Foster relationships and navigate internal business environment.
  • Position requires travel by car or plane up to 50% of the time.

  • Sophomore or Junior currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or Sales.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities on campus or with community organizations.
  • Prior customer service or sales related experience preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Word & Excel preferred.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Collaborative.

This intern position is a paid internship with assignment to a commercial sales team in one of PolyOne’s divisions. This intern position will be based at our Avon Lake, Ohio headquarters.
